About Us

Our mission is to decarbonize hard-to-abate sectors of the economy by enabling cost-competitive green hydrogen. We know we’re not the only ones working on that, but we are extremely excited about the technologies we’ve developed and think they offer a genuinely new and better path forward.

Our Story

It’s easy to overlook it now as our products are in the marketplace, but the path to resolving the substantial scientific issues in our technology was long and winding. We wouldn’t be where we are today without the support of some of the smartest people in the world.

Cofounder and CEO Gabriel Rodrigues-Calero, known as Gaby, began his work on this project in his work on nanoparticle electrodeposits at the University of Puerto Rico. Arriving at Cornell for his PhD, he had the enormous fortune to work with Cornell professor Hector Abruña, a true leader in his field.

In Abruña’s lab, Gaby developed breakthrough methodologies regarding electrochemical and physico-chemical properties of new materials, several of which are incorporated in Ecolectro’s technologies. It was also during this time that Gaby met Ecolectro’s Cofounder and Chief Science Officer Kristina Hugar, who was earning her PhD under renowned Cornell professor Geoffrey Coates.

Her work on new materials that improve alternative energy methods and discoveries of new polymer electrolyte scaffolds gave the two of them the idea that they had the potential to revolutionize the membranes that are critical to green hydrogen production.

As their ideas matured, Gaby and Kristina have been joined not only by an extraordinary group of individuals, but by organizations that have provided funding and other support.

It’s still early in this incredible journey, but the destination has come into view. If you’d like to learn more, or join our team, please reach out to us today.
